This page explains how cookies and similar technologies are used on History of Toronto. It supplements the privacy policy.
What a cookie is
A cookie is a small text file that a website or a service embedded in it stores in a browser. Cookies can be needed for a site to work, or they can be used to measure visits or to show and measure advertising.
Cookies and services on this site
- The site itself. The site software (WordPress) sets cookies only for people who log in to the administration area or leave a comment. Comments are switched off. Visitors who only read pages are not given a login cookie by the site.
- Advertising. The site shows advertising from Google AdSense. This service runs scripts in the visitor’s browser and can set or read cookies to select and measure advertisements. Google explains how it uses information from sites that show its ads at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.
The site does not control cookies set by third-party services, and their behaviour can change. The services’ own policies apply to them.
Controlling cookies
Every major browser lets a visitor see, block or delete cookies in its settings. Blocking advertising cookies does not stop the pages from working, though advertisements may become less relevant. Visitors in some regions can also manage advertising choices through the controls their browser or their ad-choice services provide.
